Humble Pie Challenge plus NEWS!

This week the Humble Pie bakers had me on the ropes trying to make my first ‘Easel Card’. I hadn’t created one before and thankfully Lisa created an Easel Card  tutorial explaining how easy it really is.

Humble Pie Easel Card Challenge

There are some FANTASTIC prizes up for grabs this week and returning by popular demand we are giving away the Angel Maggie digi to every participant. So make sure you leave your email address so we can contact you.

I decided to use Angel Maggie (really any excuse will do) and came up with a concept of her floating on clouds.

To be honest however… I am not thrilled with how my card turned out this week. I think I was having mid-week designers block. I actually coloured Maggie 4 times before finally selecting one I was happy ‘enough’ with. Then my clouds didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted and well it was all downhill from there. lol I am laughing now but I wasn’t at the time.

Do you ever get those moments when nothing is working for you?? Argh it just makes me so frustrated.

Anyhow… Here is my creation for this week.

And here is the gorgeous Maggie close up.

I have also created a downloadable digi of my cloud template that you are welcome to save and use. Download Here.

So hop on over to Humble Pie and show us your Easel Cards! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

But wait…. before you go… my exciting news!!!

I am excited to announce that I will be continuing my design position at Humble Pie and have been invited to join the Senior Bakers. I have enjoyed baking along side the girls and I look forward to more cookery in the kitchen! PLUS I am so excited about some fantastic news that is coming up that I am about bursting at the seams! But I can’t tell you that bit of news yet. So you’ll have to wait and see… hehehe

Take care all. Thanks for stopping by.

Hugs

Pawease forgive me

This is my second post today. I have all these cute images coloured in all over my desk and I thought it was about time I started making something of them!!

As soon as I saw this image over at Karen’s Doodles I just had to have it! It reminds me of my Tigger when he was a wee pup 10 years ago. We came home to find he had destroyed our couch!

Actually it turns out that he is still a little bit naughty…

This was last winter. He decided his bed wasn’t warm enough and ripped open a couch we used to have outside. I didn’t have the heart to yell at him. To be honest I didn’t really like the couch anyway. hehehe

So this is the cute “I didn’t do it” image up close.

I used my copics to colour on my new Gina K cardstock. Sorry I don’t recall exactly which colours I used for this one.

I wanted the composition of the card to have a ‘messy’ look so I used some mulbery paper given to me as a RAK from a friend Leanne at The ScrapBoxx. I had a frantic sewing session sewing it to the pp and cardstock and then I ripped it to make it all fluffy. I doubled up some ribbon to match the colour theme and added a big wooden button I got off ebay a few months ago.

I thought this would be the perfect card to give someone you had missed a birthday or something so I added ‘Pawease Forgive me”. How could you not forgive that face???

I decided to follow the sketch over at The Pink Elephant. I find so much inspiration there. Thanks girls.

I am also submitting this card to the following challenges:

  1. Crafty Creations – CUT it OUT and POP it UP
  2. Lexi’s Creations – Anything Goes
  3. Practical Scrappers – Stamps
  4. Cute Card Thursday – Ribbon-Tastic
  5. Hanna and Friends – Blue and Brown
  6. Stamp with Fun – Stitch
  7. One Stitch at a time – Stitching

Thanks for stopping by!!

Take care and I will be back tomorrow with this weeks Humble Pie Challenge!!

My All Out Challenge Attempt

Howdy all.

Today I thought I would challenge myself to a big multi-challenge! I made my way around a few challenge sites and looked at how I could combine them into a SUPER challenge. hehehe

It actually turned out quite well, as Mojo Monday was based on a sketch, Simon Says Stamp on a technique (Shabby Chic), Stamp Something on a colour combo (Blue & White),  Daring Card Makers with holes (Hole in One) and finally but not least Just Magnolia using a sentiment (Thank You).

So I got my thinking cap on and started by selecting my papers. Of course it turned out I didn’t have white card the right size to make a square so I was already off to a bad start so I found the lightest colour card I had and thought I will just cover it up! I worked out what papers and ribbons I was going to use for the different elements of the sketch and then began to work out how I would bring them together with the other challenges.

For the Daring Card Makers section of this challenge I had an idea to create a turn wheel with little messages. (hope it was daring enough for you… hehehe)

For Simon Says Stamp I distressed, tore and layered. Using Blue and white for Stamp Something’s challenge I tore white homemade paper and joined it using blue eyelets. I then layered it on top of a paper lace ribbon.

Finally I want to share with you an old technique of mine that I haven’t used in a while. Because I come from a stamping background I was always heat embossing. I have so many different coloured powders it is ridiculous. Cleartops would have to be some of my favourite for their quality but the best gold one I have is by Hampton Art Stamps. It’s unfortunate that there are so many that are not very good, and I think that this can help to put people off as they can imagine they are all like that. OK moving on, I am rambling!

This is Tilda completely coloured using embossing powders. It’s just for a different look. But I think it’s a good idea to mix up your techniques now and then. I have noticed there isn’t many people heat embossing these days. Maybe this technique might get those powders out of the drawer!

Finally, My little Thank You Tag for Just Magnolia , neatly hidden behind a big tear in the bottom right corner.

Phew… well that was my SUPER multi-challenge attempt. If you have any questions about any of the elements I have used, feel free to contact me or leave a comment.

Oh and I always, always appreciate all your comments. They bring a smile to my face and make my day! Thank you.

Til next time,

Happy Crafting!

Simple Thank You

I created this card aiming for a ‘clean’ design to enter into the Just Magnolia Thank You Challenge. I often get too excited and want to use everything so this was my attempt at holding back. hehehe

I just recently bought some wider ribbons from Spotlight and I just love the result. I placed the ribbon through a buckle and then tied a bow and placed it on top. The pretty pp I used is by Jackson Ridge. I printed the message from my computer and added a silver strip border to the edge.

I am so infatuated with my new magnolia stamps. My local craft store is planning on getting some in and I can’t wait! I just love them!

Thanks for stopping by.

Cute Birthday Card

Howdy, thanks for dropping by.

It’s a lovely sunny day today and somehow I am managing to function on just under 5 hours sleep, no idea what woke me.

Anyhow, I have a cute birthday card to share today created for both the Just Magnolia Paper Pleating challenge and The Pink Elephant Birthday challenge.

I recently bought two skin shade Copic markers and I have been trying to get the hang of them. It seems that my lighter colour E00 doesn’t flow too well at the finer end which is making it difficult to blend with. The darker colour E02 flows perfectly so I might mention something the next time I am at the store.

After colouring in with the Copic markers I was a little unsure what to colour the rest in with as my water colours turn out much lighter. Turns out, using coated paper I could use standard markers (textas for us Aussies) and simply layer it and layer it to get the shading. So that’s what I tried with Tilda here.

It’s not as perfect as using blending tools but from a distance it ain’t too bad.

Using ‘Core Dinations’ card I followed the paper pleating technique and then cut the tops to look like a fence and finished off with a sanding.

I drew the gate on the back and cut it out and sanded the edges and then inked the areas where a shadow would generally appear to give the gate some dimension. I then added the hinges from my stash.

I finished off using some clear stickers for the sentiment on more ‘Core Dinations’ card stock that I sanded and distressed. Then added some brads to hold the little charm that says “Follow your heart”.

Card Ingredients:

  1. Magnolia Tilda Stamp
  2. Basic Grey – Sugared™
  3. Core Dinations – Brown and Blue
  4. Papercraft Sentiment Stickers
  5. Brads, Charm, hinges
  6. Copic Markers, Regular Textas
  7. Coated card for stamp

Thanks for visiting.

Day Dreaming

I seemed to have a few problems this week when trying to colour using my water paints and water pencils. The paint was drying too fast on the page and even when I used more water they would end up drying in clogs. After numerous attempts I began to get a little cranky and in the end put it down to the dry weather and turned to my Derwent pencils.

I didn’t have anything in mind when creating this card. It just sort of came together. I was really just testing which paper I could use to colour reasonably well with pencils, turns out you want a nice porous paper.

After colouring in Mo Mannings stamp (just gorgeous!) I was trying to decide how I would frame her. Would I go square or circle? Finally decided on circle and then couldn’t decide what size. All of a sudden I found myself cutting her to circle pieces! I remember asking myself at the time, “What is going through your head? Oh well just go with the flow.” I ended up using some mounting tape which I positioned on one side of each piece randomly and sticking them together to form a ‘jig-saw’ like puzzle. I am still not sure what I think of it but thought it was different at least. hehehe

I am trying to get use out of the Cuttlebug funky circle frame die and as I was thinking what I could do with the circle thing I just made I had the idea to make a ‘cloud’ from the funky circles, using a similar technique I used to make the flowers (see here) in a previous post.

Well we just had a slight interruption whilst I was posting this and it was too funny not to share.

The cow from next door popped in to say hello! I wish I had have been able to get my camera faster as I was sitting here, Jase called out “I think there is a cow in our backyard!” I turn to look outside and the cow had popped his head around the corner of the trees looking into our undercover area. I rushed out to try and grab a photo and Jase got the cam and we were trying to work out how on earth it go in! Then it just jumped the fence! I guess the saying “The grass is always greener on the other side” rings true in this case.

OK so where were we? The cloud. Here is a close up picture of the cloud. After curling the edges I added some glue to the curls and sprinkled on sparkly glitter, it didn’t stand out too well so I ended up adding some bronze glitter as I didn’t have silver. Unfortunately that doesn’t quite work with the idea of a silver lining. hahaha

Oh well – just a muck around card.

Caardvarks Inspiriation!

Wow! I just stumbled across Caardvarks yesterday and the design team have created some beautiful designs from the beautiful sketch provided.

I couldn’t wait to start playing with my new goodies I received from My2Angels.net. Tracy from My2Angels is a hoot! She had me in stitches at some late hour Wednesday night.

I had bought some charms off her ebay store and the ‘thank you email’ mentions she has an online store, and of course I couldn’t help myself but to go and buy a few more goodies! Next thing I know I receive an email from Tracy hoping I haven’t got a big man in my house who is going to hunt her down for making me spend my money! LOL I was nearly on the floor.

So anyway, thanks for the laugh Tracy and thanks for the fantastic service. I have had plenty of fun playing today.

So on to the card! This is the sketch from the Caardvarks Challenge I got my inspiration from. It is designed by Becky Fleck from Page Maps (Some great inspiration there also)

I decided I should start making some birthday cards. It seems my favourite colours at the moment are browns, pink and blue. (I go through stages – sometimes daily! lol)

I cut the blue, pink and Pink Paislee (Pedal Pushers) card to size following the guide in the sketch. I then placed the pink and blue pieces in the Cuttlebug ‘Stylized Flowers’ embossing folder. I taped them to a piece of paper I had measured up. I then cut Core dinations’ card to size, distressed and sanded the bottom curling the bottom corner and loosely fitting a pink brad through the curl.

I added lace to the bottom from behind the flower background, then added some pink wavy ribbon to hide the join.

I sanded and distressed some more ‘Core dinations’ card and embossed ‘happy birthday’ with baby blue embossing powder.

Fianlly I finished it off by cutting some flowers from a ‘stem’ I wanted to use and then using pink and blue Mulberry Flowers I glued the centre and moulded them into the shape I was after, added the stem and then finished it off with a green button for the bud. I hope you like it.

Well as usual my crafty night has taken me into the early hours of the morning. Only 3 1/2 hours ago I was telling myself I should try and go to bed. You can always finish this tomorrow! Unfortuantely it is now 1:30am, so that little pep talk didn’t go down too well.

Time for bed!

Enjoy Life’s Moments

I woke up this morning to a package at my desk, yay! My new goodies I ordered last week had arrived! I was a very lucky girl this Christmas and to my surprise Jase had bought me a Cuttlebug! Of course I couldn’t wait to use the Cuttlebug but all the craft stores were closed for THREE whole days! You can imagine my anticipation for Monday to come around. lol

However, this did give me time to research online and find out all the things I wanted to purchase first up. I found this great site ScrapbookBoutique that has a huge range of dies and embossing folders for a range of machines on the market. So I placed an order for some Cuttlebug items plus some gorgeous Magnolia and Mo Manning stamps which I will experiment with later.

Stamp Something has a new challenge on called “New Somethings” where the challenge is to create something with something you haven’t used before, so I thought I would play around with the new “Funky Circle Frames” Cuttlebug die.

For some reason I had pictured the circles as being whole and I was going to make layered flowers from them and to my brief disappointment I realised they were cut out circle frames. However I wasn’t going to let this beat me! I was making flowers!!!

So I had an idea to cut up some small pieces of tape and when the die came out I stuck the circles together in different places on the back so that I could use a toothpick to curl up edges that hadn’t been stuck together.

I finished off with some buttons on top and then created the rest of my card around it.

And here is a close up of the flower from the side.

So I may have been disappointed at first but it made me think outside the square and I think in the end it didn’t turn out too bad.

Some food for thought: Can you think of something you can do different with something you always use the same way? Please send me a link or add a comment with your examples! Looking forward to being inspired by your creativity…

Entering my first ‘challenge’

I have been watching other people entering some great challenges across some fantastic blogs and I have been hanging out to have a bat!

So I had a bit of a look around and was immediately inspired by the sketch over at “The Pink Elephant Challenge“.

I also added some glitter embossing powder and rhinestones for a touch of bling to take part in Crafty Creations Glitter and Bling Challenge

I have a fascination for making things that ‘do’ something or can be ‘played’ with, and thus the idea to create what I am now nicknaming “The Window Flip Card”.

I was experiementing with this card so I didn’t go through the stages of a step by step guide, however I will do soon.

Then you just push or pull the tab to switch sides.

I am waiting on some new stamps to arrive later this week so I will hopefully have some time to create another one with a guide then!

Would love to hear your feedback!

Collection of 2009 Christmas Cards

Christmas time always feels so busy and often I leave the Christmas cards to the last minute however this time round I started early and decided I would make each card different and experiment with some ideas!

On this card I used a cute santa polymer stamp. I coloured him in using textas, added some puff paint for his beard and trimmings and cut him out as well as cutting his little legs off! I then cut two strips of red card and repeatedly folded them on top of each other to make an ‘accordian’ strip. I attached the two ‘new’ legs under santa and then mounted him to the card with mounting tape.

I recently purchased this lovely flourish rubber stamp (Wrought Scroll by Stampington & Company) as I thought it would make some beautiful elegant cards. I started by chalking the background and then stamped stamp using clear ink and covered with embossing powder and heated. I then inked the edges of the card and used a white gel pen to outline areas of the flourish. I then finished it off with some mini rhinstones.

I created the background strip using the flourish rubber stamp with AMM chocolate paper stain ink and then sprayed it with Bronze Glimmer Mist.

I stamped the two ornaments with clear ink and then sprinkled on ‘hot set powder’ which you heat with a heat gun and it turns to glue. I then sprinkled on Martha Stewarts Smoky Quartz glitter.

Just a small sample for now.
