Father’s Day at The Townscrapper

Hi Everyone,

This week at The Townscrapper we are challenging you to create a Masculine Card for Father’s Day. The Scrapettes have all created gorgeous cards this week and it turns out the ‘Big Shoes to Fill’ Evan was very popular indeed! Isn’t he just the perfect image to use for a card for Dad??

Once again (on a rare occasion) I picked my paper out before colouring! Quietly pats herself on the back. heehee I will admit it does make a huge difference rather than scrambling around afterwards trying to find papers that match your hours of colouring. heehee

I coloured Evan with copic markers and then used nesties to create the background for him as the patterned paper was a little busy. I decided to leave the corner of the card so I stuck it up over the top of the nestability shape before putting it through the cuttlebug.

I added a few stitches, inked the edges and then found some matching ribbon and added some buttons to accentuate the centre.

I have begun experimenting with Copic Opaque White, which is a paint you use for highlights. I am finding it quite good and richer than using the white pens. I just went a bit overboard with his hair though which is why it looks like he is going grey. heehee

Pop on over to The Townscrapper and check out the what the Scrapettes have been up to and show us your cards for Father’s Day!

Hope you have a fantabulous weekend! I am hoping to go shopping at the BIG Brisbane Craft Show this weekend! woooot! :)

Hugs and take care,

Humble Pie Get creative with One Embellishment!

Boy I am late posting this. I have been really busy!

This week Humble Pie have  a great challenge to test your creativity! Use ONE type of embellishment, whether it be flowers (no brad centres!), buttons, ribbon, charms and so on.

I decided it was Dusty’s turn to be showcased this week and so I attempted to take on a boy theme. I used BUTTONS as my embellishment.

I got the idea for the weaved paper from Lori Loyds Ribbon Weave Tutorial . As I could only use one embellishment (couldn’t use ribbons!) I used coredinations cardstock and cut it into strips and then carefully weaved it together. As I weaved it held itself together without any tape. I had originally planned to stitch around ever square but to be honest, by the time I got around the edge I could have thrown that sewing machine in the bin! HAHAHA

After I had finished stitching I glued the buttons around the edge and added a little tag under the big button. I mounted Dusty with some mounting tape to add some additional depth.

I coloured Dusty with my copic markers of course.

These are the colours I used:

Skin: E00, E02

Hair: E53, E55, E57 and a splash of E29

T-shirt: Y17, YR07 (blended yellow to orange)

Jeans: B41, B34, B39 – Y17, YR07

Shoes: N0, N3

Teddy: E53, E57, E29

I had a few challenges in mind when creating this but because I am late in posting some of those have finished already. However I am lucky to catch these challenges and found a new challenge site this week (Lots to Do! Looks fun and I always have Lots to do!!)

  1. Crafty Creations – Stitching
  2. Sophisticats Challenge – Stitching
  3. Papertake Weekly – Checked
  4. Lots to Do – Use a machine (the sewing machine I was about to throw int he bin) hehehe

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you are having a great weekend.

Don’t forget to head over to Humble Pie to check out the challenge and get creative!

Hugs

Love is in the Air at Humble Pie

This week’s challenge over at Humble Pie is ‘Love is in the Air which would come as no surprise considering Valentines Day is just around the corner.

All the people who entered the flowery challenge last week received a surprise in their email – A digi of the newest Humble Pie character ‘Angel Maggie’. See what I created with her here. We would love to see your creative juices using Angel Maggie, but of course not a requirement to join in the humble fun!

This week the winner will receive the cute little Dusty stamp. For details check out Humble Pie. We look forward to seeing what you come up with this week!

The inspiration for my valentines card…

My inspiration this week came from memories of being in love as a teenager. I don’t know about you but friends and I would doodle all over our school diaries about our latest love and collect any momentos we had received, found or even snipped! (I remember even saving a lolly wrapper from one boy I ‘loved’). hehehe

I began with the ‘Maggie in Love’ stamp – exclusively available from The Town Scrapper – which I made 4 prints. I worked out which areas of the stamp I wanted to project and coloured those areas all the same with copic markers. I then cut all the sections out and using silicone and the papertole technique I created the depth I was after which you can see better in this close up image.

Then I designed up a pattern I wanted to use for the background on the computer and printed it out to use as my template to cut the different patterened papers. I have used October Afternoon – Sleep Tight & Pat-a-cake, My Minds Eye – Bloom & Grow collection and Just dreaming collection.

I stuck all the pieces to another sheet of card and then using stranded cotton added the stitching.

I stamped and doodled loving things as I would in my diaries and added little bits of ribbons and the button as cute momentos.

I drew the clouds on the paisely paper by My Minds Eye, inked the edges and added the eyelets as a decorative touch.

Finally, I added a cluster of ribbon and charm to represent snippets of hair I had taped to pages in photo albums. I am sure you are all going to think I was crazy now!! lol I probably am.

Must admit it’s rather funny looking back through some of the diaries I kept from those years.

There are many challenges using similar themes this week:

  1. Lexi’s Creations – Valentines
  2. Creative Card Crew – Valentines
  3. Lili of the Valley – Valentines
  4. Stampin for the weekend – Valentines
  5. Paper Play Challenges – Love Notes

  14. Cute Card Thursday – Spots and Dots (have used spotty and dotty pp)

So after reading my inspiration for this card, did I manage to get you thinking back to your first little crushes?

Did you doodle all over your books and keep little momentos? Would love to hear that we were not the only ones!

Hope you are having a gorgeous weekend and thanks so much for stopping by.

Take care,

Inspired by Crissy

I recently stumbled across an absolutely gorgeous illustrator Crissy Armstrong who illustrates for a few different companies. I immediately fell in love with her style and decided to visit her site where I was inspired by so many of her projects. I found she had some video tutorials on her technique for colouring, one being a technique on water colouring. I love water colouring and picked up some wonderful new tips.

Crissy has recently designed a gorgeous illustration called “Wings for Hope” and along with Whimsy Stamps, they are offering this design for a limited time as a digital download to raise funds for Haiti. All proceeds (minus fees) will be given to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund for Haiti. What a special way to help.

Click here to purchase this gorgeous “Wings of Hope’ carousel horse

Not only has Crissy designed this wonderful new image, she has also started a blog candy giveaway supported by a number of companies to help promote her cause and add a little extra incentive. Click Here fo all the details.

If you love Crissy’s designs as much as I do, you will want to checkout these sites as well! You can find other designs by Crissy from, SquiggleFly, Kraftin Kimmie Stamps and Wags ‘n Whiskers Stamps

So I have recently purchased a few of Crissy’s stamps but today I wanted to help the Haiti cause and so I took my new water colouring tips to the table and attempted to create a magical whimsical rendition of her carousel horse.

I was thinking of magical new beginnings whilst I was colouring and wondered how I would share this image, and with the beautiful rainbow colours and pretty light purples and pinks I thought of a new born baby.

I created a border from pink card with my Friskars punch, and placed a sheet through my cuttlebug to add some texture, I sanded the dots to make them lighter.

Here is a close up of the horse.

I added the different colours to the mane and tail and then at the end I lightly blended them together to reduce lines. To add that extra magical touch I used my embossing pen to draw over the areas I wanted to sparkle and then sprinkled my clear glitter embossing powder on top and heated. Sometimes I find embossing powder gives a better effect than glue and glitter.

I wanted to spread the word about the wonderful effort and offering Crissy has created for the Haiti relief and it just so happens that my card fits into the following challenges this week:

  1. Color Chef - Dark and Light Pink
  2. Incy Wincy Designs – Buttons, Bows, Ribbon and Lace
  3. Kaboodle Blog – Pink, Lemon, Green & Plum (I could be stretching it slightly girls – was hoping my rainbow mane and tail might cover the colours. hehe)
  4. Stamp with fun – Baby
  5. The Pink Elephant – Polka Dots, Bow and Pink (I am hoping my embossed dots cover the polka dots.)
  6. Creative Card Crew – Punch it
  7. Die Cuts R Us – Ribbon
  8. A Spoon Full of Sugar – Freestyle
  9. Creative Belli – Hearts
  10. Crafty Catz – Love (heart)
  11. Creative Inspirations – Feminine
  12. Little Red Wagon – Hearts
  13. Simon Says – New Baby
  14. Truly Scrumptious – Sketch (square based sketch)
  15. Your Next Stamp – Sparkles

  19. All Sorts – Hearts and Flowers

Hopefully you have enjoyed viewing my little bit of magic today and are inspired to create a watercolour rainbow too!

Take care and happy crafting!

Summer Sunshine

I created this card for a sketch by Loolabelle (I just love her simple clean unique style) over at The Boxx which is a community of some absolutely amazing talented scrappers and adorable members. The sketch was initially for a scrap page but I am still in the process of trying to scrap photos so I snuck in with a card. hehehe

This card also fits in with the following challenges:

  1. Little Paper Shop – Buttons (Buttons!!)
  2. Incy Wincy Designs – Colour Me Wonderful (Copic Markers)

Thanks for looking. Happy Crafting!!

Love – Hold it Tight

It has been a few days since I have had a chance to post. Work has been hectic this week, attempting to finish a project before everyone but ME goes on a holiday to Thailand! I am certainly not looking forward to the next couple of weeks. Fingers crossed the hosting servers don’t come crashing down!

To help clear my head I had to make some cards. My first one is “Love – Hold it Tight”. I think Mo Mannings gorgeous stamp says it all. :)

I used the gorgeous Pink Paislee Cupid Collection paper and cut out the flowers and love heart flowers. I stamped a flourish onto the coordinating pattern on the back and tied twine around it.

I joined the flowers together using a DIY metal brad and added buttons to the centre. I stuck a crochet butterfly behind which I positioned to look like leaves.

I coloured the stamp using my new copics. I finally got some new colours, but they are all light so now I need to start picking up some darker colours for shading.

I have layered the different elements using silicone and mounting tape.

This card fits into a number of challenges this week.

  1. A Spoon Full of Sugar – Lots of Layering
  2. Crafty Creations – Valentines or Love (Card Theme)
  3. Creative Belli – Hearts (heart shaped flowers)
  4. Cute Daisy May – Flower and Ribbon (Cut out flowers, ribbon and twine)
  5. Humble Pie Stamps – Bling (metallic brad, buttons and pearls)
  6. Incy Wincy Designs – Colour Me Wonderful (Loving my copics!)
  7. Inky Impressions – Pink and Hearts (Pink pp, flower, buttons & ribbon and heart shaped flowers)
  8. Little Paper Shop – Buttons (Button flower centres)
  9. Raise the Bar Challenge – Debut Day (New) (New stamp and copic marker colours)
  10. The Craft Garden – New (New stamp and copic marker colours)

I hope you like my little creation this week. I look forward to your thoughts and appreciate each and every comment you all take the time to leave.

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Crafting!

Enjoy Life’s Moments

I woke up this morning to a package at my desk, yay! My new goodies I ordered last week had arrived! I was a very lucky girl this Christmas and to my surprise Jase had bought me a Cuttlebug! Of course I couldn’t wait to use the Cuttlebug but all the craft stores were closed for THREE whole days! You can imagine my anticipation for Monday to come around. lol

However, this did give me time to research online and find out all the things I wanted to purchase first up. I found this great site ScrapbookBoutique that has a huge range of dies and embossing folders for a range of machines on the market. So I placed an order for some Cuttlebug items plus some gorgeous Magnolia and Mo Manning stamps which I will experiment with later.

Stamp Something has a new challenge on called “New Somethings” where the challenge is to create something with something you haven’t used before, so I thought I would play around with the new “Funky Circle Frames” Cuttlebug die.

For some reason I had pictured the circles as being whole and I was going to make layered flowers from them and to my brief disappointment I realised they were cut out circle frames. However I wasn’t going to let this beat me! I was making flowers!!!

So I had an idea to cut up some small pieces of tape and when the die came out I stuck the circles together in different places on the back so that I could use a toothpick to curl up edges that hadn’t been stuck together.

I finished off with some buttons on top and then created the rest of my card around it.

And here is a close up of the flower from the side.

So I may have been disappointed at first but it made me think outside the square and I think in the end it didn’t turn out too bad.

Some food for thought: Can you think of something you can do different with something you always use the same way? Please send me a link or add a comment with your examples! Looking forward to being inspired by your creativity…

Happy Crafting!
