Hugs all xxxooo

I hope your day is special today too. :)

Big girl now I’m 2!

I am sooo excited. Today the GinaK pure luxury card stock arrived from the U.S and all I can say is wow! What a massive difference! My other cardstock would dry blotchy – a bit like the water paints look – and with this paper it dries soooo smooth.

Aussies using copics take note!!! Trust me you want to contact the Gina K site and order some in. It doesn’t cost that much. They were able to fit three packages in a standard airpost bag and it arrived in about a week and a half. The pages are bit smaller than A4. I had actually been expecting something around the A5 for some reason. You could fit at least 4 images to a page for most cards. Including shipping, all up (75 pages) each piece is around $0.50AUD. Bargain I reckon!!

Ok… so now that I have had my rant about Gina K cardstock, on to my cute creation.

I just adore this image from Mo Manning. Isn’t she just the cutest with her hair all static!! Friends of ours have a little girl turning two in a couple of months and for once I am thinking ahead!

I coloured her with copics on my ‘new’ cardstock. See how nice the balloons blended!! I was rather impressed. :) I created a little tag and sewed the edge carefully cutting close to the stitching once finished. Then I put it all together and added a cute ribbon for some contrast agains the white.

Colours I used for this little sweetie are:

Skin: E00, E02, R02 (blush/lips)

Hair: YR21

Outfit: Purple – BV00, V17 and Green – YG11, YG07

Balloons: Orange – Y17, YR07 and Blue – B34, B39

Shading and Outline: – N0, N3 and B41

UPDATE: I have just created a video showing how I blended the balloons in this image.

I am entering this little sweetie into the following challenges:

  1. Mo’s Digital – Clean ‘n Simple
  2. Crafty Creations – Stitching
  3. Sophisticats Challenge – Stitching
  4. One Stitch at a time – Stitching
  5. Flourishes Timeless Tuesday – “All About Me” (Defintiely my copics – I am addicted!! I have more images coloured than cards made – heehee)

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Hugs,

Sophie Mo Manning – Birthday Card

It’s my SIL birthday this weekend and I wanted to make her something cute and special to bring a smile to her face. I just love the images from Mo and since I received a delivery of new copic markers this morning I just had to get something to colour!!

I grabbed a few images but Sophie with her rag doll was too cute to resist for this card.

I decided to try some styles I haven’t normally done in the past. My new sewing machine is making me explore new territory!

I grabbed some coordination coloured card and squished it through the Cuttlebug using dots and circles embossing folders and stitched around the edge. I found some old twine ribbon (really have no idea what you call it) and stitched it on to add texture. I wrapped the raffia around a few times and tied a bow and then slid Sophie under and stuck her down.

The background pp is SEVEN years old from my stash, had to giggle when I saw the date on the back. (The scrapbook wizard 2003). I finished it off with some punched leaves and flowers.

I also decorated the inside for once but failed to take a photo.

Here’s Sophie up close.

Hopefully she brings a smile to my SIL face. :)

Thought I would start sharing the colours I have used in case people are interested:

Rocking Horse Birthday Card

Hi all, hope you have had a great week this week!

It’s my nieces 1st birthday coming up and I wanted to make something special. I was looking around SquiggleFly for some cute images and came across this rocking horse. I had one of those snap moments where an idea just clicks and so I purchased the image straight away and began to put my idea into action.

I tinkered about with an idea for the rocking assembly and then designed it up on my computer.

By pushing the pendulum the rocking horse and night scene rock back and forth. It works better when you actually rock the card itself. I think I need to increase the height to reduce some friction.

Here is a video of me showing it working. I even left a snippet of me being embarrassed at the end so you can see the creator behind the scene! hehehe

I used October Afternoon pp to create my bedroom scene and coredinations pink and turquoise cardstock.

I changed the colour of the digital image to a medium grey before printing so I wouldn’t have a harsh black border. I coloured the image with copic markers and then went around the edge of the cut out using the same colours. I designed the night scene on the computer and again coloured with copic markers using a light blue around the moon and stars for a whimsical effect.

I then designed up the elements for the scene window and room and assembled it all together. I haven’t yet decided if I will turn it into a card or possibly add some string so it can be hung.

I had a few challenges in mind as I created my layout, selected my papers and embellishments this week.

  1. MojoMonday – Sketch
  2. Papertake Weekly – Sketch
  3. Embellish Magazine – Ribbon, turquoise, brown and pink
  4. Lexi’s Creations – Spotted or Striped
  5. Kaboodle Blog – Spots and Stripes
  6. Creative Belli – Ribbons
  7. Inky Impressions – Charms
  8. Paper Play Challenges – Birthday for someone special
  9. C.R.A.F.T. – Digi Colouring
  10. Stamp Something – Something Cute

Thanks for stopping by and a special thank you to each an every one of you who brighten my day with your comments.

Take care

Cute Birthday Card

Howdy, thanks for dropping by.

It’s a lovely sunny day today and somehow I am managing to function on just under 5 hours sleep, no idea what woke me.

Anyhow, I have a cute birthday card to share today created for both the Just Magnolia Paper Pleating challenge and The Pink Elephant Birthday challenge.

I recently bought two skin shade Copic markers and I have been trying to get the hang of them. It seems that my lighter colour E00 doesn’t flow too well at the finer end which is making it difficult to blend with. The darker colour E02 flows perfectly so I might mention something the next time I am at the store.

After colouring in with the Copic markers I was a little unsure what to colour the rest in with as my water colours turn out much lighter. Turns out, using coated paper I could use standard markers (textas for us Aussies) and simply layer it and layer it to get the shading. So that’s what I tried with Tilda here.

It’s not as perfect as using blending tools but from a distance it ain’t too bad.

Using ‘Core Dinations’ card I followed the paper pleating technique and then cut the tops to look like a fence and finished off with a sanding.

I drew the gate on the back and cut it out and sanded the edges and then inked the areas where a shadow would generally appear to give the gate some dimension. I then added the hinges from my stash.

I finished off using some clear stickers for the sentiment on more ‘Core Dinations’ card stock that I sanded and distressed. Then added some brads to hold the little charm that says “Follow your heart”.

Card Ingredients:

  1. Magnolia Tilda Stamp
  2. Basic Grey – Sugared™
  3. Core Dinations – Brown and Blue
  4. Papercraft Sentiment Stickers
  5. Brads, Charm, hinges
  6. Copic Markers, Regular Textas
  7. Coated card for stamp

Thanks for visiting.

Caardvarks Inspiriation!

Wow! I just stumbled across Caardvarks yesterday and the design team have created some beautiful designs from the beautiful sketch provided.

I couldn’t wait to start playing with my new goodies I received from My2Angels.net. Tracy from My2Angels is a hoot! She had me in stitches at some late hour Wednesday night.

I had bought some charms off her ebay store and the ‘thank you email’ mentions she has an online store, and of course I couldn’t help myself but to go and buy a few more goodies! Next thing I know I receive an email from Tracy hoping I haven’t got a big man in my house who is going to hunt her down for making me spend my money! LOL I was nearly on the floor.

So anyway, thanks for the laugh Tracy and thanks for the fantastic service. I have had plenty of fun playing today.

So on to the card! This is the sketch from the Caardvarks Challenge I got my inspiration from. It is designed by Becky Fleck from Page Maps (Some great inspiration there also)

I decided I should start making some birthday cards. It seems my favourite colours at the moment are browns, pink and blue. (I go through stages – sometimes daily! lol)

I cut the blue, pink and Pink Paislee (Pedal Pushers) card to size following the guide in the sketch. I then placed the pink and blue pieces in the Cuttlebug ‘Stylized Flowers’ embossing folder. I taped them to a piece of paper I had measured up. I then cut Core dinations’ card to size, distressed and sanded the bottom curling the bottom corner and loosely fitting a pink brad through the curl.

I added lace to the bottom from behind the flower background, then added some pink wavy ribbon to hide the join.

I sanded and distressed some more ‘Core dinations’ card and embossed ‘happy birthday’ with baby blue embossing powder.

Fianlly I finished it off by cutting some flowers from a ‘stem’ I wanted to use and then using pink and blue Mulberry Flowers I glued the centre and moulded them into the shape I was after, added the stem and then finished it off with a green button for the bud. I hope you like it.

Well as usual my crafty night has taken me into the early hours of the morning. Only 3 1/2 hours ago I was telling myself I should try and go to bed. You can always finish this tomorrow! Unfortuantely it is now 1:30am, so that little pep talk didn’t go down too well.

Time for bed!

Enjoy Life’s Moments

I woke up this morning to a package at my desk, yay! My new goodies I ordered last week had arrived! I was a very lucky girl this Christmas and to my surprise Jase had bought me a Cuttlebug! Of course I couldn’t wait to use the Cuttlebug but all the craft stores were closed for THREE whole days! You can imagine my anticipation for Monday to come around. lol

However, this did give me time to research online and find out all the things I wanted to purchase first up. I found this great site ScrapbookBoutique that has a huge range of dies and embossing folders for a range of machines on the market. So I placed an order for some Cuttlebug items plus some gorgeous Magnolia and Mo Manning stamps which I will experiment with later.

Stamp Something has a new challenge on called “New Somethings” where the challenge is to create something with something you haven’t used before, so I thought I would play around with the new “Funky Circle Frames” Cuttlebug die.

For some reason I had pictured the circles as being whole and I was going to make layered flowers from them and to my brief disappointment I realised they were cut out circle frames. However I wasn’t going to let this beat me! I was making flowers!!!

So I had an idea to cut up some small pieces of tape and when the die came out I stuck the circles together in different places on the back so that I could use a toothpick to curl up edges that hadn’t been stuck together.

I finished off with some buttons on top and then created the rest of my card around it.

And here is a close up of the flower from the side.

So I may have been disappointed at first but it made me think outside the square and I think in the end it didn’t turn out too bad.

Some food for thought: Can you think of something you can do different with something you always use the same way? Please send me a link or add a comment with your examples! Looking forward to being inspired by your creativity…

Animated 21st Birthday Card

My younger cousin Steff turned 21 last year and I wanted to make her something special for a keepsake.

Steff was learning sign language a few years ago and somehow we picked up this funny ongoing custom where we ‘wiggle’ our ears to one another when we see each other. This lead me down the path of creating an animated card. Steff loves and collects everything to do with elephants so it was a given that I would have to implement an elephant on the card.

After a little bit of thought and some research on Dreamstime (stock images) I found the perfect image to use for my idea.

Technique

I printed the image multiple times and cut around each image. My plan was to layer the images to add dimension. (plus I needed the layers to hide my device!)

I wanted the ears to wiggle so I somehow had to come up with a way to make it work. After some experimenting (and a lot of hacking) I manged to find a way by joining the ears on each side together with some wire that was attached to elastic. The ribbon was attached to the centre of the wire and when you pulled on it the elastic would stretch and then spring back when released.

I layered the multiple cut out images on top to disguide the mechanical devide I had created.

After completing the elephant I began working on the background.

I distressed some papers for the background by adding ink to the edges and using a nifty distressing tool that is a little plastic holder with a V cut out and a knife in the centre. (you could also use scissors)

I then attached the elephant and additional embelishments as well as a little tag that shared a memory of mine from our childhood.

If I make another animated card like this in the future I will attempt to take some step by step photos.
